Why tar and resin are such a pain

Road tar and tree sap share a few traits: they're sticky, stubborn and cure under UV. Tar is a mix of aromatic hydrocarbons that go liquid in the heat and cling to paint. Tree sap carries terpenes and resin acids that cross-link under UV light and keep getting harder over time. Take it off mechanically without a proper solvent and you'll drag scratches every time – the contaminant is harder than the paint underneath and acts like sandpaper.

Step by step
