What is S100 White Chain Spray 2.0? A white PTFE adhesive lubricant from Dr. Wack for motorcycle drive chains, whose bright tint doubles as a coverage check and which is cleared for O-, X- and Z-ring chains. It won't clean the chain, and it's not for a quick top-up right before you ride off.
S100 White Chain Spray 2.0 is a white adhesive lubricant from Dr. Wack for the drive chain on your motorcycle. It goes on thin and creeps into the tiny gaps between roller, pin and plate. After the flash-off time, a thick, pressure-stable film of adhesive lubricant stays behind and cushions the metal-on-metal contact inside the chain joint. The white isn't there for show — it's your visual check on every plate you've treated.
Locked into that film sits PTFE, a solid lubricant made of microscopically smooth plastic particles that act like tiny gliding bodies inside the joint. For you that means: where steel works against steel, a low-friction layer slides in between, and the chain runs noticeably quieter and easier. As a white motorcycle chain spray it ties together two things that are usually separate: the thick adhesive lubrication of chain grease and the quick, targeted application out of a can.
Detailing1's tip from the shop: The most common mistake is too much product on a cold chain. Whatever sits on too thick flings off as a fine white mist onto rim and swingarm when you accelerate — and it's exactly that residue that gives the white spray its bad name. What we see day-to-day is that the opposite works better: spray it thin onto the hand-warm chain after the ride, let it flash off briefly, and wipe the excess off the outer plates. Then the film stays in the joint, not on your tail.
You apply the motorcycle chain spray to a dry, clean and ideally still hand-warm chain — never to a hot or a wet one. Warmth opens up the lubrication gap, so the thin spray pulls in deeper before it sets. That way the film sits in the joint and not just on top.
Put the bike on the centre or paddock stand and turn the rear wheel slowly by hand. Aim for the inner chain run, at the point where the chain feeds onto the sprocket. Spray from the inside and centrifugal force carries the lubricant outwards onto rollers and plates as you ride, instead of flinging it straight off. The white trail shows you in real time when the chain has gone round once.
Hold the can about a hand's width away and spray in short bursts, not in a continuous stream. A thin, unbroken trail is enough — a thicker layer doesn't lubricate better, it only builds residue. On the 525 O-ring chain of a touring bike, one short burst per hand's width of chain gets you there, and you're through in two or three turns. For the tight spot between sprocket and swingarm, grab a slim brush to spread it, not to scrub.
Then comes the step most people skip: let it flash off. The manufacturer says at least an hour, ideally overnight. In that time the volatile carrier evaporates and the soft layer turns into a firm, non-tacky adhesive film. Ride off straight away and you fling most of it back off. So the simple rule holds: lube the chain in the evening after the ride, not in the morning before you set off. Heading out on a tour, do it the night before, and the film is fully set by morning.
White Chain Spray 2.0 is a lubricant, not a cleaner. It lays itself onto the chain you give it. Spray it onto an old layer of lube saturated with road grit and it just binds the dirt in rather than lifting it out.
This is exactly where the most important limit lies. Old lube film and fine quartz sand off the road turn into a grinding paste over time that wears the chain down rather than protecting it. That's why even Dr. Wack lays down the clear rule: degrease the chain to the pores with a chain cleaner at the latest after three lube jobs — roughly every 3,000 kilometres — and only then lube it fresh.
The second honest limit is about fling-off. Despite the "virtually fling-resistant" label, the testers at MOTORRAD rated exactly that behaviour only satisfactory. For you that means: overdose it or cut the flash-off time short and a bit of white mist can land on the rim. That's not a product fault, it's a question of dosing and a little patience while it flashes off.
Which concept suits you is decided less by price than by what you want in terms of looks and use:
| Concept | Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| White chain spray (this one) | Maximum adhesive lubrication, visible coverage check, rain-proof | White residue possible if overdosed |
| Clear dry lube | Cleaner, invisible look, picks up little dirt | No coverage check, slightly less adhesive reserve |
| Adhesive grease (brush) | Very thick, long service life | Binds dust heavily, more effort to apply |
If visible residue bothers you on principle and you don't need any control over the coverage while you lube, a clear chain spray is the cleaner look. If you want to see what you're doing as you lube and keep reserve in any weather, you stick with the White.
The White 2.0 is cleared for all sealing-ring chains — O-, X- and Z-ring chains, the kind fitted to nearly every modern road bike. Its carrier is tuned so it doesn't attack or harden the small rubber seals in the chain joint, a point where more aggressive spray lubricants have already left sealing rings brittle.
It makes the most sense for touring and high-mileage riders who are out in all weather and want a lubricant film that survives a rainy stage too. If you run your bike almost only in the dry and sporty and can't stand the faintest hint of residue, you might be better off with a dry-lube concept. For everyday riding with real mileage, the white adhesive concept is the balanced compromise of lubrication, water resistance and control. It's right in that middle that it earned its test wins.
As a set it gives you a simple rhythm: clean, lube, flash off. Every 500 to 1,000 kilometres a thin fresh layer onto the warm inner chain, and at the latest after three rounds one full degrease and a fresh build-up. Keep that rhythm and you notice it in a chain that tensions evenly and no longer rattles when you push the bike at a standstill. You'll find the matching cleaner, the brush and the clear sister product bundled in our chain care for motorcycles.
It sounds like more work than it is: ten minutes after the ride. In return, a consistently cared-for sealing-ring chain often lasts many times the mileage of a neglected one, and a new chain kit of chain, front and rear sprocket costs many times more than the can that keeps it alive that long. That's the real value behind the white film.
Not sure about Dr. Wack "S100" "S100" White Chain Spray 2.0 for Motorcycle (White)? Get it explained:
Wer Kontrolle und Regenfestigkeit will, nimmt Weiß.
Ja.
