What is the TUGA wheel brush? A 34-centimetre detailing brush from TUGA Chemie GmbH (SKU D1-TUG-FBASD) with a 15-centimetre bristle head in nylon Nylex — built specifically as the mechanical partner for the acid-free Alu-Teufel Spezial (Green). The flagged fibre tips hold the cleaning gel by capillary action instead of letting it drip off, pass the cleaning energy onto the wheel face in a cushioned way and protect the clear coat. Memory effect: deformed bristles snap back to their original shape in hot water. Acid-resistant across the whole pH range. Metal-free build prevents corrosion on the ferrule.
TUGA wheel brush for „Alu-Teufel Spezial Green“ is the mechanical interface for symbiotic wheel cleaning. While the acid-free gel chemistry of Alu-Teufel Spezial Green breaks down the dirt matrix of brake dust and iron particles on a molecular level, the brush delivers the kinetic energy to pull the loosened particles out of complex wheel geometries — the gaps between spokes, the barrel, the inner faces.
TUGA Chemie from Osnabrück has been making these formulas in Germany for decades, supplying commercial detailers, trade outfits and keen private customers across the DACH region.
The bristles are made of nylon Nylex, a synthetic polyamide derivative prized in materials science for its extremely high abrasion resistance and absolute chemical stability across the whole pH range (pH 0 to 14). Unlike natural-hair bristles, whose protein structure denatures over time under chelating agents and alkaline or acidic conditions, Nylex fibres stand up even to the most aggressive Tugalan concentrate or the acidic Aluminium-Teufel Rot.
The real physical advantage is the flagged fibre tips. These microscopically fine end-splits massively increase the total surface area of every bristle. When you dip into the cleaning gel, the brush foams the product up and binds it by capillary action in the fibre tips instead of letting it drip off. The upshot: less wasted product, a more even spread on the wheel, fewer splashes when you pull the brush back out of the barrel.

Detailing1's tip from the shop: What we see day-to-day is that the most common damage to the wheel brush comes from pulling it out of the barrel without control. When you clean deep in the spokes the brush dips into the cleaning gel and picks up a fair amount — yank it out and the gel gets flung off the flagged fibre tips by centrifugal force, full force onto the paint next to the wheel or onto the brake caliper. You see it as drip marks that dry on and can etch the clear coat. The right way: pull the brush slowly and under control out of the barrel, circling lightly so the gel stays on the wheel face. Plus: rinse thoroughly with clean water after every use — surfactant or acid residue left in the fibre tips cuts the service life by up to 50 percent. With warped bristles, a 60-second bath in hot water above 60 degrees reactivates the polyamide memory property, the bristles snap back to their original shape — that adds 40 to 60 percent to the service life.
The standard workflow only works together with the right cleaning gel — the brush on its own, without Alu-Teufel Spezial Green or a comparable wheel cleaner, is mechanically too gentle to shift brake dust. Before the cleaner stage, give the wheel a rough pre-rinse with a high-pressure jet — that washes off loose dirt and grit.
Spray the wheel cleaner evenly onto the wheel and let it dwell (3 to 5 minutes with Alu-Teufel Spezial). While the chemical reaction runs, dip the TUGA wheel brush into a bucket of clean water, give it a quick shake, then dip it into the loosened gel on the wheel.
Work the bristles into the barrel, the spoke gaps and the inner face of the wheel. Circular motions, no heavy pressure — the mechanical energy is there to spread the loosened gel and carry it into deeper layers of dirt, not to polish the wheel. On crusted brake-dust marks at the spoke transition, go in deliberately with the leading edge of the brush, then work the whole bristle face over it.
Then pull the brush slowly and under control out of the barrel — never in a jerk. The gel stays on the wheel and the splash risk is minimal. Rinse the wheel residue-free with a high-pressure jet as usual, then rinse the brush itself in a bucket of clean water until the water runs clear.
After the full wash, hang the brush bristle-head up on a drying rack or over the rim of the bucket. Never store it bristle-head down or lying flat — the bristles would warp permanently toward the floor and be useless next time.

The TUGA wheel brush is cleared for all wheel types — anodised aluminium, painted steel wheels, diamond-cut aluminium wheels, multi-piece sport wheels with carbon shells, powder-coated wheels, ceramic-coated wheels. The memory effect of the Nylex bristles adapts to each wheel geometry without creating micro-scratches.
One thing is non-negotiable: the temperature limit. Never use it on hot wheels. Above 60 degrees wheel temperature (typical after a motorway run) the mechanical property of the Nylex bristles changes — they go temporarily softer and, while brushing, can dip into hot cleaning gel or evaporating acid residue. Check the wheel temperature before every use — rule of thumb: hand on the wheel; if you can’t rest your hand on it comfortably for 5 seconds, it’s too hot.
Brakes under load are the absolute taboo. Even with the engine off, the brake drum or disc can turn a fraction under mechanical load. If the brush jams into the assembly at that moment, it damages both components and can injure you. Work especially carefully on wheels with a sport brake assembly behind them — and always set the handbrake plus gear P (automatic) or first gear (manual).
Exposed carbon parts in multi-piece wheels are compatible, provided the clear-coat protection is intact. With damaged clear coat or open carbon-fibre ends, mask the spot off first — otherwise the fibre ends can fray further under mechanical load.

Demand for quality wheel brushes in the DACH market tracks directly with the wheel-swap seasons in March/April and September/October. Before every tyre change the wheels that come off get a thorough clean before they go into storage — baked-on brake dust from the past season is what people are tackling in this phase, in trade outfits and private garages alike. The TUGA brush is the standard workflow as the partner to Alu-Teufel Spezial Green.
In the pro detailing trade the brush is established well beyond wheel cleaning, for a broad off-label use spectrum. Engine-bay cleaning with Tugalan concentrate, door-shut cleaning, the grille detail area, exhaust-tip cleaning — anywhere you need a flexible, acid-resistant brush with cushioned energy. The metal-free build makes it the right call where metal brush components would cause corrosion or paint damage.
The TUGA brush at around 15 euros is the easy way in for one or two cars in a private household — with weekly wheel cleaning it typically lasts 18 to 24 months, with memory-effect reactivation even up to 30 months. In daily pro use the service life drops to 6 to 9 months — at which point a replacement or a second brush on standby for the busy periods makes sense.
The partner to the brush is the detailing wheel brush for the tight spots — spoke roots right by the hub ring, the inner wheel lip, the bolt-hole bores for the wheel studs. The brush works flat and broad, the detail brush precise — together they cover the complete wheel geometry.
Safety note: the brush itself is a mechanical tool with no CLP classification — no GHS profile, no mandatory protective gear. BUT: the wheel cleaner you use it with (Alu-Teufel Spezial) falls under GHS07 with the hazard statements H302, H317. Nitrile gloves and safety glasses are mandatory when using the cleaning system. After every use rinse the brush thoroughly with clean water — cleaning residue in the bristle tips shortens the service life and can be transferred unintentionally onto other wheels next time.

Not sure about TUGA Chemie Wheel brush for "Alu-Teufel "Spezial" (Green)"? Get it explained:
The TUGA Wheel Brush is the mechanical interface for symbiotic wheel cleaning with Alu-Teufel Spezial Green. 34 cm total length, 15 cm brush head made of nylon-nylex with splitted fiber ends that capillary bind the gel instead of letting it drip off.
First, let the wheel cleaner act (3-5 min for Alu-Teufel). Dip the brush into a bucket of clear water, then into the dissolved gel on the rim. Work it into the wheel well, spoke gaps, and inner side — using circular movements, NO extreme pressure. Pull the brush out SLOWLY and controlled — never abruptly (splatter risk).
The TUGA brush (~15 EUR) significantly undercuts premium brushes from Wesumat (~25 EUR) and detailing brands like Speed Master or Vikan (~18-35 EUR) — with identical chemical resistance and comparable mechanical performance. The metal-free brush ferrule eliminates the risk of corrosion, which often leads to rust transfer after 6-12 months with cheap imported brushes.
Acid-resistant across the entire pH spectrum (0 to 14): compatible with all TUGA wheel cleaners (Alu-Teufel Spezial Green pH 7-8, Aluminium-Teufel Red pH below 1, Bikers Wheel-Teufel pH 6.5-7.5), highly alkaline concentrates like Tugalan or Teufels-Reiniger. Natural hair brushes would denature in these environments within a few applications.
Deformed bristles can be reactivated with hot water above 60 degrees for 60 seconds — the polyamide memory property ensures they spring back into their original shape. For discolored fiber tips, a 5-minute bath in Tugalan 1:30 dilution, followed by a clear water rinse. The bristles are then almost like new — extending their lifespan by 40-60 percent.
With weekly private use, typically 18 to 24 months, with memory effect reactivation even up to 30 months. In professional detailing use with daily use, the lifespan is reduced to 6-9 months — then a new purchase or a second brush standby for peak times makes sense. Rinse with clear water after each use and hang with the brush head facing upwards.
The TUGA wheel brush only works in combination with the appropriate cleaning gel — the brush alone without Alu-Teufel Spezial Grün or a comparable wheel cleaner is mechanically too gentle to remove brake dust. The bristles are designed as a distribution tool, not a scrubber.
When immersed in the cleaning gel, the spliced fiber ends bind the product capillarily — when pulled sharply out of the wheel well, the gel is centrifugally thrown off, impacting the paint area next to the rim with full force. The correct method: pull the brush slowly and controlled out of the wheel well, circling slightly so that the gel remains on the rim surface.
After each use, rinse the brush in a bucket of clear water until the water remains clear. Surfactant or acid residues in the fiber tips shorten the lifespan by up to 50 percent and can be unintentionally transferred to other rims during the next application. Then hang it with the brush head UP on a drying holder or bucket rim — never lying down, otherwise the bristles will deform towards the ground.
For heavily soiled or discolored fiber tips, give it a hot bath in a Tugalan 1:30 dilution for 5 minutes — then rinse with clear water. The bristles will then be almost like new. For deformed bristles, hot water over 60 degrees for 60 seconds reactivates the polyamide memory property.
Notes: Never use on hot rims (over 60 degrees, the Nylex bristles change their mechanical properties, becoming temporarily softer). Brake systems under tension are an absolute no-go — even with the engine off, the brake disc can rotate minimally under mechanical stress, causing the brush to get stuck. Always have the car in handbrake + gear selection P/1. Lifespan for private use 18-24 months (with memory effect reactivation 24-30 months), professional detailers 6-9 months.
