What is the Koch-Chemie Paint Polish Violet P2.03? An abrasive gloss polish with an abrasive grade of 2.0 and a gloss grade of 9.3, which corrects, refines, and preserves lightly to moderately weathered paintwork in one step.
The Koch-Chemie Paint Polish Violet "P2.03" is no ordinary finish polish — it is a new generation abrasive gloss polish that performs two tasks in a single step: light paint correction and a flawless high-gloss finish. With an abrasive grade of 2.0 and a gloss grade of 9.3, the P2.03 as a paint polish steps in where classic finish products reach their limits, without moving into the category of coarse abrasive polishes. The result is a streak-free, deep high-gloss finish — combined with a preservation component that actively protects the paintwork after treatment.
The term "abrasive gloss polish" describes a product that combines two seemingly contradictory properties: abrasive action and high gloss. What this means in practice can be well illustrated by an abrasive grade of 2.0. This value is significantly lower than that of abrasive polishes like Koch-Chemie Heavy Cut H9.02 (abrasive grade 9.0), but noticeably higher than a pure finish polish without abrasive properties. The abrasives in P2.03 are fine enough to mechanically smooth polishing haze, holograms, and fine scratches up to a certain depth — yet they remove so little material that sensitive paintwork, clear coats, and even scratch-resistant systems can be safely treated. What surprises many in practice: The P2.03 does not dry out during application and can be easily processed even at moderate temperatures, without the polish bonding to the surface. The gloss grade of 9.3 is one of the highest finish values in the Koch-Chemie portfolio — for an idea of what that means: The Micro Cut M2.02 also achieves high gloss but is designed for pure hologram and swirl correction without a preservation component. The P2.03 offers the added benefit of integrated preservation, making it a more efficient choice in many detailing workflows. Important for dark paints: On black or deeply colored clear coats, holograms and polishing haze are most noticeable — and this is exactly where the P2.03 plays to its strengths, because the high gloss level optimally enhances the depth and color saturation of these paints.
Before applying the P2.03, the vehicle should be thoroughly washed and — depending on the paint condition — decontaminated with a clay bar. Rail dust, tar residue, and brake dust on the paint would be worked in during polishing and could cause deep scratches. Shake the P2.03 well before use. Never treat the paint in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces — neither with P2.03 nor with other polishes in general. For optimal cutting, Koch-Chemie recommends using a rotary polisher at medium speed; the best possible finish without machine marks is achieved with an eccentric polisher. In the two-step Koch-Chemie system, the P2.03 is typically the final polishing step: Step 1 handles coarse correction (Heavy Cut H9.02 or Fine Cut F6.01), Step 2 handles abrasive gloss polishing with P2.03 or alternatively with Micro Cut M2.02. If you want to build a protective layer afterward, you can apply the Ceramic Allround C0.02 ceramic coating — the preserving wax components of P2.03 will not interfere if the surface is first wiped with IPA. After polishing, rework the polish residues to a high gloss with a soft Polish & Sealing Towel — do not apply force, just buff.
The P2.03 delivers its best results on lightly to moderately weathered paintwork — precisely the condition in which a large proportion of daily driven vehicles find themselves. Typical use cases: a vehicle that has stood outdoors for years and whose clear coat appears slightly dull due to UV exposure; a used car with holograms from car wash visits; a new car with initial swirl marks after the first winter. In all these cases, the correction depth of the P2.03 is sufficient to bring the surface back to high gloss without requiring a preceding heavy-cut step. The same applies to motorcycles, commercial vehicles, and motorhomes: wherever painted surfaces are present, the P2.03 can be used — both by machine and with a hand polishing sponge for small areas or hard-to-reach spots. For professional detailers, the P2.03 is particularly interesting if no ceramic coating follows the preparation and the wax protective film of the polish is sufficient for short-term protection.
Practical Tip from Detailing1: The pad determines the character of the P2.03. In practice, for light holograms and refresh work, we recommend the soft Micro Cut Soft Foam Pad Violet — this maximizes gloss and protects sensitive paintwork. For noticeable weathering and stronger polishing haze, opt for the hard Micro Cut Hard Foam Pad Violet, which significantly increases the corrective effect of the P2.03 without changing the polish itself. Always apply only five pea-sized drops to the pad — the P2.03 is economical, and too much polish makes buffing difficult.
Within the Koch-Chemie portfolio, there are three polishes that, at first glance, perform similar tasks but have distinctly different strengths in detail. The Micro Cut M2.02 is a pure anti-hologram and high-gloss polish without any preserving components — the right choice if a ceramic or polymer coating is to follow the polishing, as no wax residues will affect the adhesion. If you want to seal directly after polishing, use the M2.02 and wipe the surface with IPA. The P2.03, on the other hand, is the better choice if the paint should remain beautiful for several weeks or months after preparation without a sealant — the integrated wax content protects and shines. The Fine Cut F6.01 is one step higher in abrasiveness: abrasive grade 6.0 for medium scratches and oxidations. If you have deeper defects that the P2.03 alone cannot fully correct, start with the F6.01 and finish with the P2.03 — this is the classic two-step Koch-Chemie system. If the correction work has already been done before the P2.03 with a hard Heavy Cut Foam Pad Red and a stronger polish, the P2.03 will deliver the perfect finish. Competitors — such as Menzerna Super Finish SF 3800 or Rupes UNO Protect — also offer gloss polishes with preserving components, but often without the same flexibility through pad choice. Koch-Chemie's color system makes pad assignment particularly practical: violet pad = P2.03, no risk of confusion under time pressure.
The P2.03 is the perfect choice for ambitious hobby detailers and professional detailers looking for a product that combines correction and high gloss in a single bottle. If you are preparing a vehicle with light to moderate weathering and do not necessarily want to apply a sealant afterward, the P2.03 is the most efficient final step in your workflow. For professionals who detail vehicles daily and want to optimize working time, the integrated preservation regularly saves a separate sealing step. Those who exclusively rely on ceramic coatings and always wipe down with IPA after polishing are better off with the pure Micro Cut M2.02 — because no wax residues are involved. For the combination of genuine corrective power, maximum gloss level, and paint-preserving effect in one step, the Koch-Chemie Paint Polish Violet P2.03 is a true benchmark in the German market.
