What makes the Glaco Blave special? The Soft99 Glaco Blave is the only sealant in the Glaco range that works on both glass and plastic — from helmet visors and headlights to safety goggles. The hydrophobic coating makes water bead off straight away, with no dry time.
The Soft99 Glaco Blave fills a gap that ordinary glass sealants leave wide open: protecting plastic surfaces. Where products like the Ultra Glaco are made strictly for vehicle glass, the Glaco Blave seals mineral glass as well as polycarbonate, acrylic and other plastics — all from a single formula. Day-to-day that means one thing: helmet visors, headlight lenses, safety goggles, tail lights and even windscreens can all be treated with the same bottle. The silicone-resin-and-alcohol formula lays down a hydrophobic layer that sheds rainwater reliably and stops bug splatter, road grime and spray from clinging the way they used to. At 70 ml in a compact bottle, the Glaco Blave is also a natural travel buddy — whether it lives in your motorbike tank bag, your kit bag or the glovebox.
Detailing1's tip from the shop: what we see day-to-day is that the Glaco Blave is best re-applied to helmet visors after every proper clean — on plastic the beading tends to hold up for four to six weeks. For glass surfaces you want to protect longer-term, reach for the Ultra Glaco or Glaco Roll On Large instead — they're dialled in for glass and last a good bit longer there.
Most glass sealants rely on fluoropolymers or pure silicone oils that grip mineral glass beautifully but can attack plastic surfaces or leave them hazy. The Soft99 Glaco Blave uses a special silicone-resin-and-alcohol blend that bonds to glass as well as polycarbonate and acrylic without damaging the material. The alcohol in the mix acts as the carrier: it flashes off completely after you apply it and leaves nothing behind but the thin silicone-resin layer on the surface. That layer drops the surface tension of the treated material, so water pulls itself into tight little beads instead of forming a closed film. The effect shows up just as clearly on plastic as it does on glass — raindrops bead off rather than spreading into a sheet across the whole face. One key difference from pure glass sealants: the silicone-resin layer is softer and less hard-wearing than the Ultra Glaco's fluoropolymer coating. On glass it therefore lasts only a few weeks rather than months. On plastic that's beside the point, since harder coatings can't be used there anyway without damaging the material.
How you apply the Glaco Blave varies slightly with the surface, but the basic routine never changes. Clean the surface thoroughly first — on vehicle glass a normal glass cleaner does the job, while on visors and plastic you're best off with lukewarm water and a drop of mild washing-up liquid. Important: keep harsh cleaners and abrasives off plastic, as they can scratch the surface. Once it's dry, lay the Glaco Blave down with the built-in felt applicator. Squeeze the bottle gently until the felt is damp, then spread the liquid in even, overlapping passes. Unlike the Ultra Glaco, you don't wait for a white haze to form — wipe the treated area straight away with the microfibre cloth in the box. The result shows immediately: the surface feels smoother and water beads off the moment it touches. On helmet visors we'd treat the outside only — the inside can fog from the silicone-resin layer when your breath hits it. For headlights and tail lights, don't let the sealant run into the seals.
The Glaco Blave earns its keep exactly where ordinary glass sealants can't go. Its prime job is helmet visors: every rider knows the problem — in the rain a sheet of water builds up on the visor and kills your vision. The Glaco Blave breaks that sheet up and turns it into separate beads that get carried off by the wind once you're moving at a fair clip. The effect is especially obvious on a bike, because the airflow hits the visor head-on. Second key use: polycarbonate headlights and tail lights. The hydrophobic layer cuts how much road grime and spray can cling — your lights stay clearer on night drives and put out more light. Safety goggles for DIY, sports glasses and even acrylic shower screens benefit too. Realistic durability varies with the surface: reckon on four to six weeks on plastic, three to four weeks on glass. On heavily used visors that get cleaned often, the effect can fade after just two to three weeks.
It's a question that comes up a lot: can't you just use the Ultra Glaco on plastic? Short answer: no. Fluoropolymer-based sealants like the Ultra Glaco are tuned for mineral glass and can attack polycarbonate and acrylic — at worst you get milky hazing or fine cracks in the plastic surface. The Glaco Blave is formulated specifically for these materials and won't harm them. Head to head: the Ultra Glaco gives a far stronger, longer-lasting beading on glass (up to 12 months vs. a few weeks). On plastic, though, the Glaco Blave is the only game in town within the Glaco family — no other product in the range is cleared for polycarbonate. If you want a complete glass-protection package for your car, you pair the Ultra Glaco or Glaco Roll On Large for the windscreen with the Glaco Blave for headlights, tail lights and other plastic covers.
The Soft99 Glaco Blave is the first pick for riders who want a water-shedding helmet visor — nothing else in the Glaco range is up to that job. At the same time it pays off for drivers whose car has plastic headlights or tail lights: the hydrophobic layer keeps the lights clearer on night drives and in foul weather. It's a handy fix too for anyone with sports glasses, safety goggles or ski masks made of polycarbonate. The compact 70 ml bottle slips into any tank bag or kit bag. For full vehicle care we'd go with the combo: Ultra Glaco for the windscreen, Glaco Mirror Coat Zero for the door mirrors and Glaco Blave for every plastic surface. One catch: if you're after a long-lasting sealant for bare glass, you're better served by the Ultra Glaco or Glaco DX — the Glaco Blave isn't built for the long haul on glass, it's dialled in for plastic surfaces.
