When do you need a dedicated care sponge?

Plastic, rubber, and leather care products have a different consistency than polishes or waxes — they are often thinner and penetrate quickly into open-pored surfaces. A sponge that is too dense will not absorb these products at all; a sponge that is too porous will let them through immediately and distribute them unevenly. The Koch-Chemie Sponge has the right porosity for precisely this product class: It absorbs the care product evenly and releases it in a controlled manner during application — no dripping on the floor, no excessive application in one spot. For exterior plastic parts — bumpers, door trims, mirror housings, underbody protection — the sponge is the fastest and cleanest method for applying care products. Inside, it is suitable for dashboard plastics, door panels, and rubber gaiters on door seals.

Application for plastic, rubber, and leather care

Apply care product to the sponge — never spray directly onto the surface, as overspray on glass or paint is difficult to remove. Apply with even pressure to the plastic or rubber surface. For heavily textured surfaces (e.g., bumpers with deep texture), work the sponge with slightly more pressure so that the product penetrates into all depressions. Wipe off excess after a short exposure time with a dry microfiber cloth. For leather care: Apply product to the sponge, work it into the leather structure in a circular motion, then let it dry. Wash the sponge after use and let it dry — do not allow product residues to dry out in the foam.

Not too much at once — rather two thin applications than one thick one. Immediately remove any excess product on glass or paint while it is still wet — dried plastic care on glass is stubborn.

Which care products are suitable for the Koch-Chemie Sponge?

The sponge is suitable for all Koch-Chemie plastic, rubber, and leather care products — especially for products of medium to lower viscosity such as plastic care milk, rubber care sprays (apply to the sponge after spraying), and leather care lotions. Not recommended for very viscous products such as highly concentrated leather waxes or polishes — for these, the Puck is the better choice.
